Ship breaking plays an important role in national economy. Every year Bangladesh has a demand for approximately 5 million tons metals/ steels but Bangladesh has no iron ore sources or mines. So ship scrapping is the important source of raw materials. A number of local industries have been developed based on ship breaking industry. This industry is considered as green industry. Almost everything on the ship and the ship itself is recycled, reused and resold. It generates large amount of revenues for Government authorities through the payment of taxes. ASRB is strongly plighted to improve economic condition raising the ship recycling as green industry.
